The family and friends of a 26-year-old man who was allegedly shot dead by police besieged the Suame police station in the Ashanti region to demand answers.

The group numbering over 50 marched to the premises of the police station on Thursday 24 May 2018 stating that they could not understand why Alidu Lawal, was allegedly killed by police as the deceased was not a criminal.

A joint police and military team was dispatched to the police station to maintain peace and order.

The angry youth were prevented from entering the premises of the police station to avoid vandalising or attack on any police officer.

A meeting was subsequently held between the family and the police but the family insisted that unless tangible reasons are given they will not accept the body for burial as police demanded during the meeting.

Uncle to the deceased, Mr Seidu Abubakar told Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah that his nephew was shot in the chest, back and both legs. He claims his nephew who was not an armed robber, was killed by police and the body was hidden. However the family was able to locate the body.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.

Alidu was allegedly gunned down at Ohwim Amanfrom by police from the Suame Divisional Police Command during patrol on Wednesday, May 24 2018.

The deceased, a resident of Tafo, is said to have gone to Ohwim Amanfrom in the company of his friends to inspect their land in the area and met his untimely death.
