The Ghana Football Association has written to Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashantigold to confirm or reject their participation in the African inter club competitions.

Both clubs will represent Ghana in the various African club competitions since they did so the last time in Africa and since the 2019/2020 league season has been cancelled they must decide whether to go or not to.

Former captain of Asante Kotoko, Amos Frimpong believes it will be the right decision for the club if they should decide to participate in the CAF Champions League.

He says this situation is similar to two years ago under C.K Akunnor when there was no league but the then management took a bold decision for the team to compete and they exceeded expectations by reaching the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.

In an interview with Kumasi based Hello FM,the former captain admitted that decision will have to be taken by the managemnet and board of directors of the club.

“Such decisions are normally taken by the board of directors, management and technical team. Using coach CK Akonnor’s era where we were not active, the management took a bold decision for us to represent Ghana. We even exceeded our target by qualifying for the group stage,”

“We seem to have the same situation at the moment so if the leadership assesses the strength of the team and decide to play in Africa, I think it is in the right direction,”

He added that playing in Africa raises the value of players of the club which they can sell.

“When we play in Africa, it raises the value of the players where some even get better offers for the club to earn something.”

“So if the board decides to allow the team to take the opportunity, it is good,” he ended.

Amos Frimpong now plays for Guinean side AS Kaloum Stars.
