Italian club Fiorentina announce the signing of Tariq Lamptey
1st September 2025
Italian Serie A club Fiorentina have confirmed the signing of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £6 million including add-ons.
The 24-year-old right-back has been handed the No. 48 shirt at La Viola and is expected to serve as a backup option to Brazilian defender Dodô.
Lamptey endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign, with recurring injuries restricting him to just 15 appearances. Despite his setbacks, he managed to register two goals and several assists when fit.
The Ghanaian defender, who joined Brighton from Chelsea in January 2020, made 122 appearances in total for the Seagulls, scoring five goals and providing 16 assists across all competitions.
This season, he was left out of Brighton’s first three matchday squads against Fulham, Everton, and Oxford United, sparking speculation about his future before Fiorentina swooped.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler praised Lamptey’s professionalism upon his departure:
“He’s been a valued player throughout his time, but more than that, he is a brilliant professional and person.
This is a good opportunity for him to play both Serie A and European football. On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to wish him all the very best for the future.”
The Italian side took to the internet to announce the signing of the Ghanaian defender, showing excerpts of when he had his medicals and his eventual announcement.
Fiorentina qualified for the 2025/26 UEFA Europa Conference League after finishing sixth on the 2024/25 Italian Serie A league log after the entire campaign, finishing ahead of Lazio. This will give the Ghanaian international a fair taste of European football this season as he aims to make his second ever FIFA World Cup appearance when he helps the Black Stars seal a spot at the global showpiece in North America in 2026.
Lamptey will now fly to Accra to join the Black Stars camp ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad (September 4) and Mali (September 8).
