Ghanaian forward Jeremy Doku made an impactful start to the new French Ligue 1 season, playing a pivotal role in Stade Rennais' convincing 4-1 triumph over FC Metz on Sunday.

The Belgium international of Ghanaian heritage, a prominent target of Manchester City's interest, commenced the match and showcased his prowess throughout, playing for 85 minutes and leaving an indelible mark on the encounter.

Doku's presence was prominently felt when he etched his name onto the scoresheet, contributing significantly to his team's commanding victory on their home ground.

The clash began with Rennais opening the scoring in the 20th minute courtesy of Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga. However, FC Metz quickly retaliated, equalizing just a minute later through Youssef Maziz, ensuring that both teams headed into halftime with a goal apiece at the Roazhon Park.

The second half witnessed a resurgence in Rennes' performance, leading to a dominant display that culminated in three additional goals, firmly securing the coveted three points at stake.

Amine Gouiri, the French international, regained the lead for Rennes in the 51st minute with a well-executed strike. Jeremy Doku amplified the team's advantage in the 67th minute by contributing the third goal.

Rennes continued their relentless assault as Moroccan international Ibrahim Salah sealed the victory with a brace just moments before the final whistle, culminating in a comprehensive 5-1 triumph.

Meanwhile, on the opposing side, Ghanaian talent Benjamin Tetteh, who recently secured a move to FC Metz, debuted for the club.

Tetteh entered the fray as a substitute, coming on in the 76th minute as  replacement for Lamine Camara in  what was a brutal defeat.
