Black Star defender John Boye has set an unenviable of becoming the first player to be shown the red at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The FC Metz guardsman, who had been booked in the first half for a horrible tackle received his marching orders in the 57th minute after picking a second yellow card during Ghana's 2-2 draw with Benin on Tuesday.

Mickael Pote gave Benin a shock lead after two minutes but Black Stars captain Andre Ayew restored parity.

His younger brother Jordan fired Ghana ahead, but Pote earned the Squirrels a point after John Boye was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Boye will miss the next game against Cameroon on June 29, but will be available for selection in the final group encounter against Guinea-Bissau.
