Former Ghanaian defender John Boye, reflecting on his transition from French Ligue 1 to the Turkish Super League, highlights stark differences in tactical levels.
Boye spent five years with Rennes in the French Ligue 1 before moving to Kayserispor in the Turkish Super League during the 2014 summer transfer period.
The 36-year-old football veteran played for Kayserispor for one year before transferring to Sivasspor, where he made a significant impact with his strong defensive play over 65 matches.
Boye, who also earned recognition for his contributions to the Ghana National Team, playing in 68 matches and scoring 5 goals, shared his observations about the tactical disparities between the two leagues.
"When I came to play for Kayseri Erciyesspor in 2014, the first thing that caught my attention was the difference in tactical level between the two leagues.
How should we play the game, how do we stop the other team? There were tactical teachings such as," Boye explained.
He emphasized that the tactical level in the French Ligue 1 was notably higher than what he experienced in the Turkish Super League.
Even during his time with Sivasspor, Boye observed that tactics were not as prominently emphasized.
Boye's insights provide a glimpse into the nuances of football at different levels and the varying strategic approaches employed in different leagues.
