Jordan Ayew was lauded by Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson for his performance during their 4-3 win against West Ham at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Ghanaian forward opened the scoring for the Eagles with a 15th-minute strike, setting the tone for a solid overall display.

Ayew's influence on the game continued as he played a key role in the build-up to Eberechi Eze's game-winning penalty.

Hodgson praised Ayew's development during his second spell at the club, highlighting the improvements he has made since his first stint from 2017 to 2021.

While always a strong player, the Palace manager noted Ayew's enhanced game awareness and decision-making ability, making him more effective on the pitch.

“He was always strong, he was always good at holding off challenges, he was very difficult to take the ball from and he was a good dribbler,” said Hodgson about his forward.

“But he’s added to his game. He’s added the awareness of what’s around him and when maybe it’s not the right time to attempt the dribble or the turn and to do something else, which is a great compliment to him. Also, of course, he’s scored some goals.”

In the current season, Ayew struggled to find his scoring touch under former Palace boss Patrick Vieira, registering only one goal in 37 appearances.

However, he has now scored three goals in the last six games under Hodgson, who believes that the Ghanaian striker has the potential to score 12 or 13 goals a year if he continues his current form.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t have that sort of return from him in the 150-odd games I had (previously),” said Hodgson. “If he continued like [he has now], it would give him something like 12 or 13 goals a year.

“I can’t praise Jordan enough. His game has improved enormously.”

Hodgson expressed his admiration for Ayew's recent performances, acknowledging his significant improvement and praising his ability to make better decisions on the field.

The Palace boss could not praise Ayew enough and is pleased to see the Ghanaian's game reach new heights.
