Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo made his long-awaited return to the pitch during Celta Vigo’s 3-1 win against Real Valladolid on Sunday, following a 257-day recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Aidoo entered the match in the 89th minute, replacing Javi Rodriguez, marking his first appearance of the season.

The 28-year-old had been sidelined since October 2023 after suffering the ACL injury while representing the Black Stars in a friendly against Mexico.

The injury ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the rest of the 2023/24 season.

After rejoining Celta Vigo during pre-season, Aidoo is now focused on building his match fitness and regaining his form.

His return will be a boost for both club and country, as he was an important figure for Celta Vigo before the injury.

He also featured in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his performances earned him a spot in Ghana’s final squad.

With his return to action, Aidoo is eager to reclaim his place in the Black Stars and play a pivotal role for Celta Vigo in La Liga.
