It had been widely reported that Issah Muniru was arrested with his accomplice after a series of robberies at East Legon and surrounding areas. The report said a 70-year-old woman was also allegedly robbed and assaulted by Muniru and his accomplice.

But a statement signed by ACP David Eklu, Director General, Public Affairs of the Police Service said, preliminary investigations into the matter established that the suspects were not involved in any armed robbery.

“Preliminary investigations conducted in the case show that the three friends including one Issah Muniru, an Officer working with the Operation Team of the Jubilee House, set off to attend a musical show which was taking place at Kikibees, in East Legon, Accra.

“The three, en route to Kikibees, made frequent enquiries on the way in a a bid to get there. When making one such enquiry, a passerby suspected them to be robbers, as a result of frequent robbery incidents recorded in the area. The passerby(name withheld), raised an alarm, causing others to nearly lynch Issah Muniru and his friends. A police Officer nearby stopped the three men from being lynched, proceeded to arrest them and took them to the police station.

After preliminary investigations had established the fact that the suspects involved were not involved in any robbery, as suspected by the person who blew the alarm, the suspects were released for investigations to continue.”
