The Kabaka Foundation, a NGO has refurbished and commissioned the Neo-natal and Intensive Care Unit, NICU, of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

The unit which is a referral point in the region, has been expanded from a 30 bed capacity to a 50 bed capacity to house more babies, to help treat neonatal jaundice and save the lives of premature new born babies in the region.

The Kabaka Foundation is a Non-Profit Organization with a mission of spreading the love of God by putting smiles on the faces of the needy and underprivileged in the society through impactful social interventions and community development programs.

The Foundation undertakes projects focused on orphans, nursing mothers, street children, sick and terminally ill, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable people in the society. Every year, during the birthday of the Chairman and Founder of Kabaka Foundation, Nana Owiredu Wadie, he shows this benevolence to the hospital.

This year, Kabaka Foundation expanded and refurbished the NICU and created two Pre-natal Special wards which has been named after the mother of the Founder, Madam Yaa Boatemaa.

This is to help provide a serene and hygienic health infrausture for new born babies who need intensive care and pregnant women in labour at the hospital.

Nana Owiredu Wadie also donated 20 thousand Ghana cedis as payment for hospital bills for some nursing mothers who are still at the facility due to non-payment of bills.

He promised to construct a new multi-complex building at the Eastern Regional Hospital to house a new NICU department with an OPD and a mothers’ hostel for the hospital next year to house mothers whose babies are kept at the NICU.

The foundation also donated provisions and toiletries to the hospital and nursing mothers.The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and MP for New Juaben South, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi, while appreciating the gesture, called on other benevolent organizations to emulate the example and assist government in providing quality health for the citizenry.

The Clinical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Dr Foster Amponsah-Manu, expressed gratitude to the foundation adding that the hospital is faced with lots of challenges and called for assistance in that direction.

He also presented a painting to Nana Wiredu Wadie on behalf of the hospital as an appreciation for his continuous support to the hospital.

The Executive Director of Kabaka Foundation, Henry Larbi pledged that, he and his team will make sure their Chairman’s pledge for the hospital comes into reality.
