Karela United emerged victorious in a thrilling contest against league champions Samartex Nalerigu on Sunday, securing a 4-2 win that significantly boosts their survival hopes with just one game remaining in the season.

Karela displayed a greater sense of purpose throughout the match, while Samartex seemed to be basking in the glory of their recent historic league triumph.

Having secured the championship by defeating Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 last week, Samartex's focus appeared to be on their upcoming home match, where they will be honored for their achievement.

Karela, aware that a defeat would jeopardize their survival chances, took control from the outset.

They opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Welbeck Takyi and extended their lead just before halftime with a penalty converted by midfielder Abdul Latif.

Samartex responded with a goal shortly after the break, courtesy of Seidu Abubakar, but Takyi quickly restored Karela's two-goal cushion with his second strike of the match.

Another goal from Samartex set up a tense finish, but Solomon Aboagye's late goal sealed the win for Karela.

To ensure their stay in the league, Karela will need to avoid defeat in their final game against Medeama in Tarkwa.
