The Unity and University Halls of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), popularly known as Katanga and Conti respectively, are to be restored to their former statuses as all male halls.

It is quite uncertain when the change was going to be effected.

This resulted out of a meeting with the executives of both halls had with the vice chancellor, dean and legal matters.

It is evident that the meeting yielded good results as the former status of both hall was going to restored back to ‘normalcy’

The Vice- Chancellor can however be vindicated because, earlier reports making rounds before the October, 22 chaotic demonstration reported the VC being the mastermind of the change of the halls statuses.

KNUST was closed down indefinitely after violent protests by students on Monday 22 October 2018 against what they referred to as the brutalities being meted out to them by KNUST security services.

This brutalities according to the students were ways devised by the school authorities to oppress them, fearing they would react after the male halls were converted to mixed halls

KNUST school management however succeeded in converting the male halls to mixed halls under the guise of expanding access of accommodation to female students at the beginning of the 2018/2019 academic year.

The decision to convert all halls into mixed ones met strong opposition from a section of both present and past students.
