Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong has jumped to the defense of  President Akufo Addo over his choice to stay in his private residence instead of the Flag Staff House.

Traders near Akufo Addo's Nima residence have been asked to evacuate as part of plans to beef up security to the president.

The opposition NDC have chided the decision while some civil society groups have called on the president move permanently to the Flag Staff House.

Howver, Kennedy Agyapong says it is at the President's own prerogative to decide where he wants to live.

“I have no problem if the president has started compensating Traders and squatters there,"he said on Adom TV’ Tuesday.

"The president is a sympathetic person, I know. I personally believe it is not wrong for him to compensate them though I’m very sure that he didn’t initially intend to relocate them but I think it’s about time he takes his security seriously.”

He said some predecessors of  the presidents had done similar things during their tenure, calling the NDC not to go "diabolical" about the issue.

“He has his own private house he wants to live in. You can’t be diabolic about this issue Felix”, he told his co-panelist, NDC’s Felix Kwakye Ofosu.".

"Why did you block the roads around Mahama’s house?

"Even Mahama was living in two government houses- he was occupying two government properties. Flagstaff House and the other one. Akufo-Addo is using his own private house”, he added.
