The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso and Deputy Education Minister, Kingsley Nyarko, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he describes as baseless and desperate claims of a plot by the NPP to rig the 2024 elections.

His remarks follow a press conference by the NDC in Accra on November 19, where the party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, accused the General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier-General Michael Opoku, of masterminding a scheme to ensure an NPP victory in the December 7 elections.

Sammy Gyamfi also warned that the NDC would hold top security officials, including the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, accountable for any violence or fatalities during the elections.

In response, Kingsley Nyarko, in an interview on Adom TV’s morning show Badwam, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and unnecessary.

“The press conference was needless. The NDC is so desperate. Threatening to hold security heads accountable for potential mishaps during elections is absurd,” he stated.

Mr. Nyarko also called on the NDC to focus on educating its supporters rather than making threats, emphasizing the need to preserve Ghana’s democracy.

“I expect the NDC to inform their members and stop making those threats. They are not helping our democracy. We need to preserve our country and avoid anything that could derail our democratic process. The elections should not be about violence; they should reflect our commitment to democracy,” he added.
