Chairman of the Road and Transport Committee of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Ayeh-Paye has asked Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to step down as a result of the recent protest by KNUST students against the University authorities.

Students of Katanga Hall of the University, on Monday, October 22, 2018 embarked on demonstration on campus to register their displeasure with some decisions of the authorities against them.

The students protested the decision by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kwasi Obiri-Danso that the hall be turned into a mixed hall coupled with other issues.

The demonstration resulted in violence as the protesters vandalized several private and public properties on the campus.

Following the incident at KNUST, some critics have called for the head of the Vice Chancellor to roll while others have condemned the destruction by the students.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme on Thursday, Hon. Aye-Paye rebuked the students for embarking on a violent demonstration instead of engaging in a peaceful protest to have their concerns addressed by the appropriate authorities.

According to him, the student's approach deserves condemnation but the authorities cannot be left off the hook.

He believed the authorities are also to blame for the students' action because there were signs showing the students' agitation over the decisions they were taking.

He told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesse that the VC of the University, Prof Kwasi Obiri-Danso should do the honourable thing and vacate his office for the sake of peace and stability on campus.

"If I were him, I would resign and allow someone else to continue from where I left," the MP for Ayensuano Constituency said.
