The sudden withdrawal of the Former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu from the National Democratic Congress flagbearership race is an indication of a lack of strong ribs, the party's Greater Accra Regional Chairman Ade Coker has said.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Saturday, Mr. Ade Coker said candidates seeking such positions in the party needed to be adequately prepared for all the challenges that accompany it.

He suggested that Kojo Bonsu was not ready to put up a formidable contest.

“If you are going to go into a contest, you should have strong ribs. Strong, strong ribs. It is an indication that his ribs are not strong….Ask the boxers, when you don’t have a strong rib and they give you a punch, just one small punch, you are down,” Ade Coker said.

Asked what the ‘strong ribs’ connoted, Ade Coker did not confirm or deny whether he meant a person’s financial capacity or grassroots support.
“The ribs connote everything,” he said.

Mr Kojo Bonsu pulled out from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race yesterday.

Mr. Bonsu who had up to close of today to pick nomination forms, becomes the second aspirant after legal practitioner Elikplim Lorlormavor Agbemava, to pull out of the NDC presidential primary scheduled to take place on January 26.

“It is with deep regret that after considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided to end my campaign for the flagbearership of the NDC today,” a statement sign by his spokesperson, Mohammed Alhassan said.
