Asante Kotoko defender Samba O’Neil has thrown his weight behind interim coach Abdul Karim Zito, urging the club to retain him ahead of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Zito, a former Black Satellites coach, took over the Porcupine Warriors in the final stretch of the 2024/25 season following the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Under his guidance, Kotoko lifted their 10th FA Cup title after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

While the club has yet to make an official decision on Zito's future, O’Neil believes the experienced coach deserves to continue in the role.

“Karim Zito is a good coach, and I think he should lead us to Africa,” O’Neil told Asempa FM.

The defender also praised the Ghana Premier League, noting its competitiveness and quality.
“There is quality in the Ghana Premier League, and I am happy to be here,” he added.

Asante Kotoko are preparing for a busy preseason schedule, which includes participation in the GHALCA Top Four tournament beginning on August 1, followed by a trip to South Africa for the high-profile Toyota Cup clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Porcupine Warriors will be aiming to build momentum and stability under a clear technical direction before their continental challenge kicks off.
