Ghanaian football giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have paid a heartfelt tribute to their former Management Committee Member, Yamoah Afrifa Ponko, following the news of his passing on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Ponko, who previously served as the General Manager of the club and contributed significantly to its success, passed away after battling a long illness.

He also held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Assembly, playing an influential role in local governance.

In response to the sad news, Asante Kotoko honored Ponko’s legacy through a post on social media, expressing their sorrow and appreciation for his service to the club.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former management member Afrifa Yamoah Ponko," the club shared on X (formerly Twitter).

They added, "The thoughts of everyone at Asante Kotoko are with his family and friends at this difficult moment. You’ll never be forgotten for your great service."

Ponko was in his 60s at the time of his death and had been ill for several weeks.

His passing leaves a void in both the football community and local governance, where he made a lasting impact.
