Kumasi Asante Kotoko grabbed a Champions league ticket after defeating Karela FC in a penalty shootouts in the final of the Tier one of the NC special Competition.

After 1-1 in regulation time, the porcupine ran away with a trophy following a 4-1 in the final played at the Baba Yara stadium.

Karela drew the first blood through Emmanuel Osei Baffour in the 50th minute after the former Ashanti Gold forward silenced the home fans with a curling shot from from close range.

But Fatawu Safiu equalised through a spot kick, after he was adjudged to have been fouled in the box by Ampem Dacosta.

The victory sees Kotoko, who last participated in the CAF Champions league in 2015, making another journey in search of their first continental glory in 36 years.

It gives the CK Akunnor side a third successive participation in Africa after failing to make it to the semi-final in the 2018-19 CAF Confederations Cup, where a loss to Zesco United ended their dream.

Kotoko in 2015 got eliminated by MC El Eulma after losing 2-1 to the Algerians in Kumasi.
