Kpandai MP ruling not final — NDC signals possible review after Supreme Court decision
28th January 2026
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained that the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, does not mark the end of the legal contest over the constituency’s 2024 parliamentary election.
This follows a 4–1 majority ruling by the apex court which overturned the Tamale High Court’s earlier decision that annulled Mr Nyindam’s election on grounds of electoral irregularities.
The Supreme Court held that the High Court lacked jurisdiction to nullify the parliamentary results and accordingly restored Mr Nyindam’s mandate.
Reacting to the ruling on Wednesday, the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament and NDC MP for South Dayi, Nelson-Rockson Deafeamekpor, said the party was disappointed but not defeated, stressing that further legal options remain available.
“This is not the end. The ruling will be filed by February 6, and once we obtain the certified true copy and study it, we will advise ourselves accordingly. There is a review option, so this matter is far from over,” he stated.
He appealed to NDC supporters in Accra and the Kpandai Constituency to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as the party considers its next steps.
Meanwhile, the NPP has described the Supreme Court’s decision as conclusive and beyond dispute.
The party’s Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako Marfo, said the ruling was clear, emphatic, and final, leaving no room for ambiguity.
According to him, the apex court lawfully quashed the High Court’s judgment and firmly reaffirmed Matthew Nyindam as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the Kpandai Constituency.
