Former Ghana national team coach Kwesi Appiah has announced his temporary resignation from his role as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council.
This move comes after a directive from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which instructed Appiah to relinquish one of his positions due to potential conflicts of interest.
Currently serving as the head coach of the Sudanese national team, Appiah's dual roles prompted CAF to take precautionary measures as Ghana prepares for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.
To comply with the directive, Appiah will step back from his Executive Council responsibilities until November 2024.
His spokesperson, Asante Forkuo, confirmed, “Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as an Executive Council member of the GFA until the end of November 2024.
This decision was made to prevent any conflict of interest, following the CAF communication shared with the GFA. Appiah has avoided participating in any EXCO activities since the AFCON qualifiers commenced.”
Appiah, who was elected to the GFA Executive Council representing Asante Kotoko, is now focused on leading the Sudanese team in their upcoming matches.
The first leg of the doubleheader against Ghana is set for Thursday, October 10, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return match on October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
