Controversial marriage counsellor George Lutterodt has decried as “insane” the expectation of some Ghanaian ladies for their boyfriends to propose marriage to them via billboards.

Mr Lutterodt, who was speaking on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Friday March 10, told host Moro Awudu: “I hear some women want to be proposed [to] on a billboard. I mean this is insane behaviour. If you have a girlfriend who is demanding such a thing from you, break up with her before she causes you to be a mad boy.”

Mr Lutterodt, who was contributing to a discussion on romance in relationships, argued: “We are copying blindly because we are importing everything, except toilet roll, and that is our problem”.

He explained: “The African man was not raised to know how to do it. It is not part of our DNA and you (ladies) put a lot of pressure on us to become criminals by pretending to be what is not.”

For him, African men respect women and most of the things women seek in modern relationships are things imported from the West.

He indicated that African men have so much regard for their partners that they usually seek the hand of the lady they wish to marry from her parents who then ask her on their behalf.

“Proposing to someone to marry in the African context is not part of our culture. We don’t propose to people we want to marry. We respect women to the extent that when we even want to have you as a wife we are scared to approach you, so we use the right protocol. The protocol is when we go through your parental controls and family line to let them ask your hand in marriage on our behalf,” he explained.
