Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi will not be in post for his Swiss side FC St. Gallen when they play against FC Lugano in the Swiss Cup finals on 15th May, 2022.

Despite the goalkeeper's impressive form for his side he will be rested for the finals ac 'Cup' goalkeeper Lukas Watkowiak will be used.

This was disclosed by  coach of the side Peter Zeidler when they defeated FC Lugano 3-0 in a league game where Ati Zigi made four key saves on the day.

Coach Peter Zeidler's "luxury problem": Zigi has to go to the bench in the cup final. Because on May 15, "Cup Goalie" Lukas Watkowiak will be used.

“We agreed on that before the season. And that's not being shaken, there are no discussions", says Zeidler after the game against Lugano.

Watkowiak 's contract was recently extended until 2025. One reason will be that you can keep the man happy with the cup bets. Only: Zigi is in the form of his life and an absolute favorite with the fans.

But a word is a word. In the run-up to the cup final, doesn't this make Peter Zeidler stomach-ache? 'No, absolutely not. We have two great goalkeepers. Lukas held up brilliantly in the semifinals in Yverdon. And Zigi ran onto the field after the game and hugged Lukas. He may treat him to these missions."

Nevertheless: The goalkeeper question will be hotly debated among the fans until May 15th. And depending on how Watkowiak plays and whether you can celebrate the first title since 2000 in Eastern Switzerland, even beyond that.
