The loyalty of the acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, to the presidential bid of Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPP’s flagbearer is being questioned.

This was as a result of the running of several adverts in the Daily Guide, a newspaper owned by Mr. Blay, promoting the re-election bid of President John Mahama in the forthcoming general elections.

The running of the Mahama adverts in Daily Guide is not being taken lightly by sections of the party, leading to unabated queries over his loyalty to the cause of the party.

Mr. Anyidoho, the deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress, said he was not surprised that Daily Guide’s running of adverts seeking the re-election of Mahama has become an issue causing people to doubt the stance of Mr. Blay.

It is very interesting, he said, that the “acting [National] chairman of the NPP is busy running ads for the person that he has schemed very hard to take the baton from.”

“There is some serious dissonance,” he added, stating that he cannot fathom the national chairman of the NDC, Kofi Portuphy, engaging in same.

According to him, he heard colleagues in the NPP complain about the trend. He said the only explanation to the attitude of Mr. Blay is that “he [Freddie Blay] knows Akufo-Addo is not going to win the elections.

“And, he doesn’t want to be struck twice—so, he will rather go for money now and be running ads for president Mahama [and] when Akufo-Addo loses he continues with his business,” Mr. Anyidoho said Tuesday on Class FM.

“If he decides to play hard politics and doesn’t run any ad for president Mahama and Akufo-Addo loses then he has lost out on both ends. So, he has done the mathematics, the calculations and said…let me be taking what I can be taking now by way of advertisement revenue and be managing ‘small, small small, small’ after my man has lost the election and gone focus on my business,” he added.

He said once Akufo-Addo loses his third bid to become president of Ghana, Mr. Blay will be booted out of the NPP setup.

He alleged: “The real owners of the NPP will take over their party.”
