Former President Mahama has said the massive endorsement of his re-election bid is an indication that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is battle ready to wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing party leaders and supporters at the NDC Headquarters shortly after he was declared the winner of the flagbearer contest, Mr. Mahama said the NDC is united and poised for victory adding that nothing can stop their victory.
In his victory speech to the party, Mr Mahama said:“Tonight, I want to serve notice to Ghana that from the outcome of this election, the NDC is strong. The NDC is united. The NDC is poised for victory in 2020. And nothing, absolutely nothing can stop our march towards [the] Flagstaff House.”
"Our party has spoken with one voice and I must say we are all winners. I am deeply touched by the overwhelming endorsement I have received from the grassroots of our party. These results that we have heard announced today is dedicated to all of us, the members of the NDC…I will work closely with you and tirelessly with all of you so that our common objective of returning the party into power will be achieved,” he stated.
“Let us be one, let us trust each other and let us not believe the stories that we circulated that one is trying to undermine the other,” the former president now flagbearer of the NDC told an enthusiastic gathering at the party's headquarters in Adabraka
John Mahama beat competition from six other aspirants in the NDC’s presidential primaries held on Saturday to emerge winner.
He polled 213,487 votes representing 95.23 percent of the total valid votes cast.
