The majority in parliament says it will go ahead to approve Gender Minister-designate, Otiko Afisah Djaba, despite the minority’s opposing stance on her appointment.

Madam Otiko Djaba disclosed during her vetting that she did not do her National Service because she was out of the country, a situation that clearly violates the National Service Act which makes it mandatory for all Ghanaians to undertake a one year National Service.

Following the development, the House deferred her endorsement to Tuesday after the minority rejected her approval by consensus.

The minority has insisted she’s not qualified for the job, but the majority side in parliament say they’ll will pass her for the position despite the strong opposition from the NDC minority.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo said they’re bent on approving Otiko come Tuesday, in pursuance of the standing Orders of the House(172), which permits them to go by secret balloting after the House is unable to reach a consensus in such cases.

“Hopefully and by God’s grace on Tuesday, we’re going to cast that secret ballot, on Madam Otiko Djaba,” she insisted.
