Police in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region have taken into custody a 55-year-old man after a violent domestic confrontation that left a family member with critical eye injuries.
The suspect, William Gyamfi, also known in the community as Kwasi Manso, is accused of stabbing Akua Agyeiwaa, a woman believed to be in her early fifties, in both eyes with a pair of scissors during a heated misunderstanding at Sefwi Abrokofe.
The attack reportedly left the victim in a critical condition, forcing her immediate evacuation to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where she is receiving emergency medical care.
After the incident was reported, police patrol officers moved swiftly to the area and arrested the suspect.
By the time officers arrived, Gyamfi had reportedly been assaulted by angry residents.
He was found with visible injuries, including a swollen left eye and forehead, as well as bleeding wounds on his left leg.
Police conveyed him to the Juaboso Government Hospital for treatment, after which he was discharged and placed in custody.
Authorities say the suspect is currently cooperating with investigations as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Meanwhile, residents of Sefwi Abrokofe have raised concerns about Gyamfi’s past conduct, alleging that he has a history of violent behaviour, including a previous cutlass attack on his brother-in-law.
Community members are urging law enforcement agencies to pursue the case rigorously and ensure prosecution, warning that failure to act decisively could embolden similar acts of domestic violence in the area.
