Man shot dead at Keri in Oti Region as Police launch full-scale murder investigation

A 36-year-old man has been shot dead at Keri in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, prompting the immediate deployment of a joint Police-Military Taskforce and the launch of a full-scale murder investigation by the Nkwanta District Police Command.
According to a statement issued on Monday, June 8, reports emerged earlier that day of an unidentified man having been attacked and fatally shot in the community. Security personnel were swiftly dispatched to assess the situation and secure the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found the body of the deceased — later identified as Thomas Adon — lying in a pool of blood with multiple suspected gunshot wounds, confirming that he had been the victim of a violent attack.
A preliminary sweep of the area yielded several items considered critical to the investigation, including a piece of wood, 15 spent cartridges and five live BB and AA cartridges.
All recovered items have been secured for forensic and ballistic analysis as investigators work to piece together the sequence of events that led to the killing.
The body has been deposited at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Mortuary in Nkwanta, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Members of the joint security team have engaged traditional leaders and family members of the deceased to update them on the investigation and reassure them that authorities are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
Security agencies extended their condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents of Keri and surrounding communities to remain calm in the aftermath of the incident.
Authorities were particularly firm in their warning against any form of reprisal or vigilante action, cautioning that such responses could inflame tensions and undermine the peace of the area.
The public has been urged to come forward with any credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down and arresting the perpetrators.
