Media personality, political critic and private lawyer, Maurice Ampaw has admitted that he and his wife are customers of the embattled gold trading company, Menzgold. The legal practitioner is now defending the company against what he feels is government's unfair treatment.

Mynewsgh reports that Ampaw revealed in a statement: “I want everyone to officially know that lawyer Ampaw is a proud customer of MenzGold”.

The lawyer has claimed that he purchased 50 pounds of gold worth GHC 100,000 three times totaling GHC 300,000 before the company ran into crisis.

Ampaw also claimed that his cousin invested GHC 520,000 while his wife invested GHC 200,000, cumulatively making GHC 1,200,000 of total cash lodged with Menzgold.

Maurice Ampaw has carved a image of being a very controversial media personality.
Mynewsgh.com reports that Maurice Ampaw was speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based radio Abusua Fm. The lawyer indicated that there is nothing wrong with people who invested with Menzgold.

Holding brief for the victims of the company, Ampaw said that nothing showed the company was not operating under false pretenses.

He added that he was convinced to invest after he contacted the Registrar General’s Department, and the Minerals Commission and concluded that the company was genuine.

Ampaw is now blaming the regulatory bodies for what he terms as a neglect of duties in monitoring the businesses of Menzgold.

He concluded that he intends to sue the Bank of Ghana and the Security and Exchanges Commission for this neglect.
