Fast rising Ghanaian afrobeats star, Gregory Bortey Newman, best known by his stage name King Promise, has finally reacted to the nickname given to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as ‘King Promise’ by some Ghanaians.

According to the 'Selfish' hitmaker, he laughs whenever he hears the president being referred to as ‘King Promise’.

Speaking in an interview on Accra based ClassFM, King Promise said he doesn't see the correlation between what he does and the president, jokily adding that their bald heads could be the reason.

He said; “I don’t know how it came about but it’s funny. I just wake up and I realise people are calling the president ‘King Promise’. I am trying to find out the comparison, what we have in common, it is funny, maybe the head,”

The musician said referring to the president as ‘King Promise’ will not sway attention from his brand because he is not a politician.

“I laugh about it all the time, it’s a plus when people are calling the president with your name, it is cool, I will accept it like that, I don’t have any problem about it, absolutely nothing”.

King Promise, who is promoting his new single 'CCTV' featuring Mugeez and Sarkodie, used the opportunity to appeal to the president to invest in the creative arts sector in order to empower Ghanaian artistes.

“We need a lot of support in the art industry, we need more money, more funding. Build centres like workshops where people can learn how to write music or play any kind of instrument. He should also invest into the art industry to train Ghanaian artistes in order to compete with the high-level with other people,” he said.
