The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Ibrahim Baidoo  has presented an amount of 30 thousand Ghana cedis to Assembly members at the municipality.

Some Assembly Members who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said though they do not know the reason behind his decision to give them such an amount, they suspect it could be an attempt to influence Assembly Members ahead of the General Assembly meeting which is scheduled to take place on October 27.

“There are several pressing issues that would feature strongly during the next Assembly meeting some of which include debating the budget proper and the revised budget and other serious matters including the renewal of some contracts so probably he is using the money to slow down the tempo”

“Yes, we have been given 30 thousand Ghana cedis by the Municipal Chief Executive but we do not know the reason behind the presentation. I was only notified to go and pick my share from the Presiding Member at the Assembly”

Another Assembly Member who also confirmed receiving his share of the said amount from the Presideing Member of the Assembly noted that “yes I have been given such money but honestly I don’t know why. All I was told, was that Chief Executive has given us 30 thousand Ghana cedis to share but as to where the money was taken from, I don’t know and I don’t care to know” another Assembly Member stated.

I didn’t bribe them – MCE

When contacted, the Municipal Chief Executive, Ibrahim Baidoo admitted giving out such an amount to be shared to Assembly members.

He however denied suggestions that he gave the money to influence them  or bribe them into offering them a favour.

“People come to me for help everyday so what problem is it when I help my Assembly Members”

The residents  noted that several road contracts executed under the leadership of the MCE have all developed huge pot holes and are currently being patched again at the expense of the tax payers’ money, thereby causing financial loss to the state.

“Most of the road contracts under the administration of Hon Ibrahim Baidoo have all gone bad with huge pot holes and is really having a toll on drivers in the municipalities”

Meanwhile, te Presiding Member of the Assembly, Braimah Abdulai denied ever distributing any such monies to Assembly members despite the Chief Executive admitting to giving such monies to Assembly members.
