Heavy D has opined “It’s not news” rapper Medikal filled the 2,800-capacity Indigo O2 in London, UK.

Thus, he added, it should not be praised “too much” because “we need to strive for bigger things”.

He spoke on Accra 100.5 FM.

“We both know 3,000 people are not that many,” Heavy D stressed to Entertainment Capital host Prince Benjamin (PB).

Doubling down, he asserted La Hustle hitmaker Medikal “by himself, couldn’t have made the 3,000.

“He had a lot of people with him, for instance, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, so obviously it was easy to do it.”

The renowned music executive and event organizer eulogized Medikal as “a great artist, I admire” skilled “lyrically” and at “wordplay,” and an artist who “has paid his dues”.

However, he maintained his stance, urging: “Let’s call a spade a spade, come on.”

Heavy D explained his stance, asking: “How many hits does he have internationally and how long can he sustain a show for?”

Showmanship is about how long you can sustain a show and that requires many hits, he contended.

“It’s not the crowd that comes that matters. It’s how you deliver,” he said. “When it comes to delivery, I don’t have an issue with him but I’m being realistic. Let’s calculate. By himself, he won’t be able to fill the venue. Not now.”

A former Joy FM star, he spoke on why it is difficult for Ghanaian acts to fill huge venues internationally.

He said the idea of “Ghana music, pro-Ghanaian” is a “limiting mindset,” his point being Ghana’s competition is really “not with Nigeria” but the entire world.

He also advised, “If you want to be appreciated outside, appreciate yourself first. We don’t love ourselves in the music industry so what else?”

Despite his controversial stance on the issue, Heavy D extended congratulations to Medikal, the Ayekoo hitmaker, for his role in organizing people for the success of the event, noting that it is a positive contribution to the music scene.

He also expressed his initial reaction to the Planning & Plotting Concert held at the Indigo O2 on May 3, stating, 'Anything is possible,' and emphasizing that hard work towards a goal leads to achievement.
