Alhassan Suhuyini, representing Tamale North in Parliament, has strongly criticized the Black Stars for their lackluster performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), asserting that they failed to uphold Ghana's honor on the international stage.

In a parliamentary session, Suhuyini condemned the senior national team for their dismal showing in Ivory Coast, where they were unable to secure a single victory, tarnishing the country's reputation.

Addressing the issue on the parliament floor, Suhuyini emphasized the disappointment felt by many Ghanaians, particularly considering the team's poor display despite the significant financial investment made in their participation.

He remarked, "Given Ghana's esteemed position in football, mere participation no longer suffices to bring us pride. It is truly disheartening for our flagship team, the Black Stars, to partake in the Africa Cup of Nations only to exit prematurely at the group stage."

Ghana's hopes of advancing to the Round of 16 were dashed as they finished third in a challenging group comprising Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a defeat against Cape Verde with a scoreline of 2-1, followed by consecutive draws against Egypt and Mozambique, both ending 2-2, sealing their elimination from the tournament.

The disappointing outcome of the tournament highlighted the urgent need for introspection and improvement within the national team, as they fell short of expectations and failed to deliver the desired results.

Suhuyini's remarks echoed the sentiments of many Ghanaians who were left disillusioned by the Black Stars' underwhelming performance and early exit from the prestigious continental competition.

The defeat underscored the challenges facing Ghanaian football and raised questions about the effectiveness of the team's preparation and execution on the field.
