Morris Garages, the iconic British automotive company, is set to enter India in the second quarter of this year with a technology-focused C-segment SUV, Hector. MG Motor India also plans to launch an electric SUV, ZS EV, later this year.
Scheduled to be unveiled on April 2 in New Delhi, MG Motor’s first SUV will come a range of connectivity features beyond basic driver assist technology. The company also said it will be among the first car companies in the world to provide Over the Air (OTA) functionality to users.
Under the hood, MG Motor’s connected car is basic machine-to-machine communication, connecting the vehicle to its India-based servers via a SIM card.
MG Motor India said that customers can expect newer connectivity features such as biometrics and car health along with routine navigation and auto parking technologies. It also revealed it has developed its own operating system for the car which will help build custom applications. The OTA will feature will help the company analyse users’ behaviour and personalise the experience, it added.

As far as its all electric vehicle goes, MG Motor plans to launch ZS EV in India in the fourth quarter of this year. The electrical vehicle will also come with similar smart connectivity features.
MG Motor’s first car, Hector, will compete with Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass. It claims Hector will be bigger than its rivals in terms of dimensions. MG Motor said it will disclose more features and specifications of its new car at its April 2 event.
