Coach of Asante Kotoko, Michael Osei has declared the Kumasi-based club as favourites for the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Speaking to Ashh FM's "Akakpo Kakai" at the club's training grounds in Kumasi, Michael Osei who won the league with Kotoko as a player in 1991 and 1992 stated that the Porcupines were favourites going into the 2016/17 competition and the G6 Tournament.

According to the former Black Stars player, Kotoko's pedigree means that they go into every competition as contenders for the ultimate and the G6 Tournament is no exception.

"Kotoko is always favourites in every title challenge .Our target is to be one of the title contenders" he stated

He went on to say that since he was a player at the club till date the club has gone into every title challenge as favourites.

"We are preparing very seriously. We want to perform better than last season and we are still favourites. Since I was a player at the club till now Kotoko has always been favourites in every competition." he emphasised

He mentioned Kotoko's intention to play in Africa as soon as possible.

"We are going all out to ensure that at the end we win one of the major trophies be it the FA Cup, the league trophy so that the following year we can join Africa." he said

He refused to admit or deny if the club intends to win a treble saying that it was not out of their reach yet desiring to win enough to get the club to Africa.

"Oh yes, It is a matter of winning something that can take us to Africa. Last season we won the President Cup and the G6 Tournament which did not really do us any good but if we had been able to win the FA Cup or the league title that could have helped us go to Africa so this season we have to win one of those to ensure that we go to Africa." he reiterated

Asante Kotoko finished fourth two points below arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak who finished third in a league that saw WA All stars finish at the apex with 51 points.

The club is currently training ahead of the G6 Tournament which kicks off tomorrow.

Kotoko face Bechem United in their first test of the competition next Monday.
