Ministry of Education sets deadline for final teacher licensure exams by August 30
16th July 2025
The Ministry of Education has instructed the National Teaching Council (NTC) to work closely with its Registrar to finalise arrangements for the final sitting of the current teacher licensure examinations, stating that this opportunity must not extend beyond August 30.
The directive was given by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during the swearing-in of the newly appointed NTC board members.
He explained that the deadline is part of a larger strategy to transition to a new framework for evaluating teacher qualifications.
While applauding the board’s forward-thinking proposals, the Minister disclosed that the upcoming framework will shift focus toward academic training and hands-on fieldwork rather than relying solely on standardised licensure exams.
This change is designed to better align teacher preparation with real classroom needs.
“The last of it must be concluded not later than 30th August. If there is a last opportunity for those who sat and couldn’t make it, that process should not travel beyond 30th August. You are to work with the registrar, get us a firm date, and we’ll put that off,” he stated.
