The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed strong opposition to what it terms an unlawful attempt to unseat New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, through a planned re-run of the constituency’s parliamentary election.

Following a lengthy closed-door meeting, monitored by Adom News, the Minority announced its decision to vigorously oppose Parliament, the Clerk, and the Government, describing the development as “sad and unfortunate” for Ghana’s democracy.

Members of the Caucus appeared in all black in the chamber to visually register their displeasure with the proposed re-run.

Information gathered indicates that the Minority plans to formally challenge the decision on the floor of the House, arguing that it undermines the will of the electorate and sets a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s parliamentary processes.

Meanwhile, as Parliament continues deliberations on the 2026 budget appropriation, attendance figures showed the Majority with 11 members present in the chamber, compared to 31 for the Minority. Observers suggest the Minority’s numerical advantage in attendance could strengthen its capacity to voice opposition effectively during upcoming proceedings related to the Kpandai matter.

The decision on the re-run, which remains controversial, has sparked debates over electoral integrity, parliamentary authority, and the protection of voters’ mandates, highlighting tensions between the two main political parties in Ghana.
