The Minority in Ghana's parliament have released a new year's message to Ghanaians and the ruling NPP led by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In the message, the minority Members of Parliament cautioned President Akufo-Addo to desist from revising Ghana's history in favor of familial considerations.

The caution included in the statement is due to the two recent holidays introduced by President Akufo-Addo.

The two holidays are to be observed on January 7 and August 4 as Constitution Day and Founders' Day respectively.

When President Akufo-Addo announced the two new holidays, some section of Ghanaians which the minority MPs are included complained. They noted that the holidays were in favor of the President and his family.

With regards to August 4 to be observed as Founders' Day, the MPs at the time raised concerns since Ghana already observes September 21 as Founder's day which is the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Instead, NPP argues that all members of the big six and other unsung heroes are all part of the struggle to make Ghana an independent state.

Due to this, the Minority MPs are accusing the President for introducing August 4 to celebrate other members of the big six of whom some are of his lineage.

They claim that the President is revising the history of Ghana to include his father and other family members as part of those who struggled for the independence of Ghana.

August 4 as a holiday has been passed by Parliament, thus will be observed from now onward as a day to celebrate the founding fathers of Ghana.

Same way, January 7 has also been passed by Parliament thus will be observed as a day for commemorating Ghana's Constitution.
