The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Juaboso Constituency is accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to rig the December 7 elections in favour of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The party points to the sudden transfer of the district electoral officer and the recruitment of individuals known to be NPP members as polling officers to support its claim.
Addressing the media in the constituency, Juaboso MP Kwabena Mintah Akandoh demanded the removal of the said NPP members from the list of officers, warning that failure to do so would be a recipe for chaos.
"Barely a month to the elections, the EC has chosen to abandon its constitutional role as a neutral referee and is instead behaving as an agent of the New Patriotic Party," he stated.
"The sudden and unexplained transfer of the district electoral officer during this critical period, just one month before the 2024 general election, is not just suspicious, it is strategic.
"In her place, a handpicked replacement by Dr. Bossman Asare, deputy chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has taken over and immediately began appointing known NPP delegates as polling officers."
Mr. Mintah Akandoh reiterated his demand for the removal of the said NPP members from the list of officers, warning that failure to do so would lead to chaos.
"The people of Ghana have had enough, and they are ready to deliver a resounding judgment at the polls," he added.
The NDC is demanding the publication of an updated list of polling officers, including photographs, in compliance with CI-127. They also call for the immediate removal of openly partisan NPP polling officers whose affiliations compromise their neutrality, and the correction of all irregularities in the list of polling officers, ensuring individual verification phone numbers for every officer.
"Let this serve as a warning to the EC. Ghanaians will not stand by and allow you to subvert their will," Mr. Mintah Akandoh concluded.
