Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), Joe Debrah has blamed the increasing spate of poor officiating in the Ghana Premier League on the lack of competition in selecting Premier League referees.

He says most referees officiating in the Ghana Premeir League do not attend training and review courses since they know their places are safe.

The Ghana Premier League has now been bedeviled with a lot of complaints about poor officiating from club officials and players.

Kotoko coach Barreto has been vocal about officiating with Olympics captain Gladson Awako also joining the bandwagon, Dreams FC coach Vrcic and Bechem's Kaasim Mingle have all lamented about poor refereeing in the Ghana Premier League.

“The problem is that they think they are FA referees so they don’t attend training and reviews. Yet still, they get matches to officiate from the GFA. So we are not able to correct them when there is an error”, he told Happy FM.

He also shot down the assertion that officiating has been poor due to the numerous new referees that were promoted after the Anas saga.

“I don’t agree with referee Raman because all the referees that were promoted are performing very well. Since Normalisation time some of these referees have performed very well”, he added.
