Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated lower tier side Asokwa Deportivo 2-1 in their MTN FA Cup round of 16 game at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

The porcupine warriors started the game the better of the two sides as they piled pressure on the lower tier side for the opener but it did not take long.

As on the 12th minute striker Francis Andy Kumi was upended in the penalty box and the referee whistled for a penalty which was duly converted by Fabio Gama.

Asokwa Deportivo went close with Joseph Gordon's shot just a whisker off the goal post while Razak Abalora was also called into action several times.

Emmanuel Keyekeh was taken off after a savage tackle forced him off to be replaced by Mudasiru Salifu.

But Evans Adomako made sure of the results in the 38th minute with close range finish after connecting to a pass from Imoro Ibrahim.

The away side pulled one back around the half hour mark to make it 2-1 but Kotoko held firm and booked their place in the quarter finals of the MTN FA Cup.
