The race for the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League Golden Boot has become one of the most thrilling in recent seasons, with Asante Kotoko's Steven Mukwala and Berekum Chelsea's Steven Amankona separated by just one goal.

Mukwala, who scored twice in Kotoko's 2-0 victory over archrivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday, now has 14 goals for the season.

This puts him just behind Amankona, who leads with 15 goals.

The Ugandan international's brace not only contributed to a significant win for the Porcupine Warriors but also intensified the competition for the top scorer accolade.

Mukwala expressed his determination to clinch the award, acknowledging the stiff competition from Amankona.

“It’s a tough race. Amankona is also in good shape but I believe at the end of the season, the best player will win the goal king prize," Mukwala said following the match against Hearts of Oak.

The victory over the Phobians propelled Kotoko into 9th position on the Premier League table, boosting their confidence for the remaining matches.

With Mukwala's form peaking, the battle for the Golden Boot promises to go down to the wire.
