The Muslim Caucus in Parliament has met with  the leadership of the Methodist Church over some disagreement that has ensued between a Muslim parent and authorities of the Wesley Girls High School.

It comes after a Muslim father on Monday, April 26, went to Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast to withdraw his ward after the school prevented the Muslims students from observing the ongoing Ramadan Fasting.

Ishmael Zakaria Alhassan, the father of Bushira Ishmael, drove from Accra to Wesley Girls to seek the withdrawal his child, questioning the level of religious tolerance of the school.

The issue  has since ignited debates about the future of Muslim and Christian relationship in the country.

However the caucus, led by Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, MP for Asawase and Minority Chief Whip of Parliament of Ghana, on Thursday met with the church leadership to amicably solve the issue, asking all Muslims to exercise self-restraint.

"After a very frank but cordial discussion on the issues, the Church assured us that the matter will be resolved within the next few days in shaa Allah," the caucus said in a statement.

"His Eminence the Presiding Bishop assured us that the board of the school of which he is the Chairman will be meeting within the next few days to discuss the issue and get amicable resolution to the problem.

"The church will revert to the team on the specific decision taken at the meeting regarding the resolution of the issue at stake."

Muslims across the country, like in other part of the World, are halfway through the month-long fasting in Ramadan at a time students are back to school.

Ghana has an exceptional literature when it comes to religious tolerance and coexistence.

But there is a growing anxiety among some sections of the public that the continuous religious turf war in the Public Schools will in future mare the beautiful relationship that exists between the two biggest religious group in the country.

However the Caucus in its statement indicated that the matter would be resolved considering the assurance from the Church leaders.

"We would like to thank the leadership of the Methodist Church led by the Presiding Bishop for the warm reception accorded us and the assurances given to us that the issue will be resolved amicably to reflect the usual inclusiveness of Methodist education in Ghana," the statement read.
