Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has expressed his deep affection for Ghana, embracing elements of his Ghanaian heritage such as cuisine and dance.

Despite representing Belgium at the international level, with 20 appearances including the 2021 European Championship, Doku maintains a strong connection to his Ghanaian roots, attributing his love for Ghanaian food and culture to his upbringing.

"When I go home and my mother cooks for me, it’s always Ghanaian food and I love it,” Doku shared on the In The Premier League Chair show, highlighting the influence of his family's traditions.

Doku's admiration extends beyond food to Ghanaian dance, language, and music, with frequent visits by his parents to their homeland reinforcing his bond with Ghana.

Acknowledging his Ghanaian identity, Doku emphasized his ability to speak Twi, a Ghanaian language, and reminisced about his past visit to Ghana.

"Of course, I’m Ghanaian also because my parents are Ghanaians. I also speak Twi, which is a language in Ghana.

I’ve been there once and I’ll have to go back there again because it was a long time ago," Doku affirmed, highlighting his connection to the country.

Doku's sentiments come amidst a successful season with Manchester City, where he joined from Stade Rennes last summer.

The 21-year-old has made significant contributions, recording five goals and eight assists for Pep Guardiola’s side, who are vying for their fourth consecutive Premier League title and have secured a spot in the FA Cup final.
