The Caucus for Democratic Governance, Ghana (CDG-GH) has launched scathing attacks on President  Nana Akufo Addo, describing him as "an inconsistent and confused President"

The pressure group has further called for the resignation of the Energy Minister Hon. Boakye Agyarko, who is been blamed for "misleading" the president.

The statement by the CDH-GH comes at the back of reports that the President could cancel the Ameri deal, after it received a widespread condemnation from Ghanaians.

In a statement CDH-GH said the  deal is "absurd and smells like fraud leading to financial loss," adding the move to renegotiate the Ameri deal by the Nana Addo administration was "a strategy to "create, loot and share."

pro-government newspaper, Daily Statesman reported on Thursday that  its sources within the Office of the President suggested that the new agreement was a “solo-driven” initiative of the Energy Ministry.

It said President Nana Akufo-Addo was misled to give executive approval to the renegotiated Ameri deal, transferring the management of the power plants to Mytilineos.

CAUCUS FOR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE

PRESS RELEASE

4th August, 2018
THE RENEGOTIATED AMERI AGREEMENT IS A STRATEGY FOR “LOOT AND SHARE THE ENERGY MINISTER MUST RESIGN

The Caucus for Democratic Governance, Ghana (CDG-GH) has received the decision taken by President Akufo Addo to withdraw the renegotiated AMERI agreement; as a move in the right direction, by an inconsistent and confused President.

Observers would remember that in 2015, the NPP made much noise about the original agreement criticizing it as over bloated.

The original agreement negotiated by former President Mahama and heavily criticized by NPP has the following as basis :
Ghana has to pay $102 million for 5 years. The total payment is $ 510 million. After the 5years ( which is left with 2.5 years) the plant becomes State property.

In 2017 when NPP came to power, they decided to renegotiate the agreement on the basis of ‘’so called value for money’’. The renegotiated agreement is as follows :

  • Ghana has to pay $75 million for 15 years.

  • The total payment in this case, is $ 1.125 billion.

  • With the renegotiated agreement, Ghana looses $615 million of the taxpayers money.

How would you describe this, if it is not “loot and share”?

Besides the plant will be owned by a second party to be introduced into the deal after 15 years. This is absurd and “smells like fraud” leading to financial loss, for which the Minister for Energy, Hon. Boakye Agyarko should resign.

Indeed the President, an astute lawyer who signed and later withdrew the agreement has apparently lost control of the steering wheel of governance and competence in leadership.
