Newly elect Ghana president HE Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has pledged support for Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai ahead of Zimbabwe’s general elections in 2018.

The Ghanaian president in what has been termed as “private but comprehensive discussions” with the Movement for Democratic for Change (MDC) leader in Accra pledged support for Mr Tsvangirai in order to ensure that Zimbabwe goes through a free and fair elections in 2018.

According to party vice president Nelson Chamisa, the discussions had happened on the back of Nana Addo’s swearing-in on Saturday January 7 Accra.

Interestingly, Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe was notably absent at Nana Addo s inauguration which was attended by Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el Sisi, Equitorial Guinea’s Tiodoro Obiang Nguema, Mr Tsvangirai and a host of other African leaders as he is reported to be on holidays.

Mr Chamsa revealed that the Ghanaian leader had said that all African leaders must adhere to the African Union pact on free, fair and dispute-free elections.

“They discussed the 2018 elections, our politics and the economy, democracy in Africa, the lessons that can be learnt from the Ghana elections as well as the elections stand-off in Gambia” Mr Chamsa further revealed.

Nana Addo was sworn-in as Ghana’s 5th President of the 4th Republic, after winning the recently held Presidential elections in December, 2016.
