As expected, not all are in favour of the establishment of a national cathedral in Ghana as proposed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led administration.

Though disagreement was expected, one can tell a banter between some Christians and some Muslims on social media is getting heightened.

Some Muslims and Christians have been on each other's throat on Facebook over a comment made by Sheikh Aremeyaw Shuaib - spokesperson for the National Chief Imam about the controversial national cathedral.

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 6, 2018 unveiled an architectural design for the construction of a national cathedral to be a gathering place for people of all faiths.

There has since been heated public debate about the needfulness or otherwise of a national cathedral as well as the proposed location for the project.

But giving his opinion on the issue on 3FM’s Sunrise Thursday, Sheikh Aremeyaw argued that the project does not reflect the true secular nature of the country but rather favours one religious ground; a situation he fears will breed religious conflict.

“The context is that, okay, you are a secular country, the national Christian cathedral will just give certain image or monument to satisfy only one section of the citizenry. If you do so you sometimes create a foundation for certain kind of conflicts”, he opined.

His comments however seemed radical by a section of Christians and Muslims which spackled them to attack each other.

Below are some of the offensive comments raised:
