Current national female under 18 champion, Sandra Arhin of Asoba Foundation has vowed to build up on her sterling performance that won her a gold medal at the Players Tournament in August 2021.

In the semi-finals of the players tournament, Sandra Arhin had to dig deep into her experience to beat Beatrice Aku Adzaho of Atorkor table tennis club 3-2. (11-9, 15-17, 5-11, 11-7 and 11-5).

Down 1-2 in games, and also trailing in points in the fourth game, Sandra Arhin relied on topspins to overcome the antispins produced by Beatrice Aku Adzaho.

In the final match, Sandra Arhin imposed her authority with a resounding 3-0 win over Anastasia Dosu, also of Atokor Table Tennis club (11-2, 11-6 and 11-9).

A bronze medalist for team Ghana in the 2019 world junior and cadet championships held in Accra and also winning the national secondary schools gold medal, the road seems smooth for Sandra Arhin.

‘’ I am happy to have won the last tournament. I really put in a lot of effort during my training sessions and I was well prepared. My semi-finals match was a tough one and I had to do my best to recover when I was down.

I am grateful to Coach Dora Sarpong who discovered me and trained me. I am thankful to my parents for also motivating me.

Finally, I want to thank Asoba Foundation for giving opportunity to many players to showcase their talent’’.

Nevertheless, she is mindful of the many talented and experienced players in the likes of Judith Acheampong, Matilda Fodu and Diana Opoku who pose a big threat to her rise.

‘’I know that I have to battle tougher players in the upcoming tournament. I am ready to apply all I have learnt at training and I look forward to having a wonderful tournament’’.

Can Sandra Arhin keep up with the momentum?

All roads lead to the Hathiramani hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday 2nd October 2021 at 7am, where the National Youth Championship will be held.

The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is coming up with a Sheroes Project, an initiative geared towards encouraging females to play, participate and enjoy table tennis.

The Sheroes Table Tennis Project in Ghana is premised on the fact that the country's history proves female table tennis players are the gender that has brought more international laurels for the country," Saturday's National Youth Championships will be held at the Dayaran Gangaram (D.G) Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Stadium.

The event, dubbed "Discovery Series 1, Talent meets Opportunity", will witness over 300 young talents ranging from Under-21, U-18, U-15 and U-11 competing among each other for laurels.
