The National Democratic Congress has hit hard at the New Patriotic Party for declaring themselves winners of the December 7 elections ahead of the Electoral Commission's official declaration.

In a press conference at the NDC headquarters, the ruling party described the NPP's act as "irresponsible and reckless."

According to the NDC, they are in the lead contrary to the NPP's claim but refuse to mention figures insisting they are awaiting the EC's declaration.

The NDC's deputy general secretary Koku Anyidoho believes that the NPP had foiled such speculations and gotten certain media houses to announce results in their favour in their quest to create tension and insecurity.

He stated that the New Patriotic Party tried similar schemes in 2004 and 2012 insisting that he had predicted that they (NPP) will repeat such irresponsible acts in this elections since they cannot win if the elections were to go about peacefully.

The late former national chairman of the New Patriotic Party Jake Obetsebi Lamptey came under severe criticisms in the past for making similar statements and the NDC has minced no words in categorically condemning the main opposition party for declaring themselves winners of the elections.

The elections in Ghana is usually characterised by issuance of statements and rebuttals from the two leading political parties.

This will be the third time the New Patriotic Party's candidate Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo will be contesting in the general elections having contested in the 2008,2012 and now the 2016 general elections while the sitting president John Dramani Mahama will be looking to beat Nana Addo to it for the second time after coming out victorious in the 2012 elections.
