The New Patriotic Party has accused the National Democratic Congress of "deliberately heightening tension and violence in the country to instill fear and panic in Ghanaians" ahead of the 2020 elections.
Citing the recent shooting incident that occurred at the Ashanti Regional Headquarters of the NDC to buttress it's claims, the NPP urged the police to expedite investigations into the matter, whiles condemning the tragic incident that claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another person.
National Communications Director of the NPP, Hon. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who said this at a press conference at the party's headquarters at Asylum Down on Tuesday, wondered why the NDC will continue to preach violence and issues of insecurity, days after government set up a commission to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence and other related issues in order to prevent future occurences.
"I believe it is a deliberate attempt by the NDC to put some fear in Ghanaians ahead of the 2020 elections...
"But Ghanaians should not impressed by such arguments adding that they should be more concerned about the pro poor policies the NPP government is putting in place to alleviate poverty and reduce hardships they the NDC put Ghanaians through during their days in power....They have driven the country away from policy driven discussions and discussing issues that seem to put fear in Ghanaians," he accused.
That notwithstanding, he said, the ruling party, because it is committed to the rule of law and good governance, is throwing down the gauntlet to the NDC on policy-based discussions.
To him, the "NPP performs far better in government than the NDC" who are "fond of corrupt activities" that tend to collapse the nation and impact more hardship on Ghanaians.
"We are challenging the NDC to policy debates that will enable Ghanaians to know the pro poor policy programmes the NPP government has put in place within its two (2) years in power and the what government has done to ensure that Ghanaians will enjoy a bread and butter economy.
"As a center right party, we have introduced more pro poor policies than the NDC which is a social democratic party.
"We have introduced Free SHS, 6 new regions, 1 district 1 factory, 1district 1 dam, 1 district 1 warehouse, public sector reforms an independent special prosecutor amongst others.
"These are the issues we should be discussing on radio and television not the everyday violence related issues discussions which seem not to improve the lifes of Ghanaians," Yaw Buabeng Asamoah added.
